Chris Rynalds from Renaissance Orchards in Washington State grows a wide variety of traditional bittersweet and bitter sharp cider apple varieties, mostly French and English origin cider apple varieties. He also makes excellent ciders (check some of them out here), including one of the best french style Keeved ciders we've had from an American cider maker. Chris used to run a business called Cider Supply, which sold Keeving kits and scion wood to other orchardists and cider makers - hobbyists and pros. Helping other folks with their cider making has always been part of Chris's path in cider, and this Single Varietal bundle is his latest project to help cider makers explore various varieties.
About these kits: Not necessarily made for enjoying a variety pack of single-variety ciders, these ciders are made with the cider-maker's palate in mind. Each cider is keeved to halt fermentation and retain the apple variety's natural sweetness. Chris recommends blending these into a low complexity, modern cider in various ratios to explore how this cider shows up in a cider blend. Or better yet, splash these into your own cider! We've had fun blending some of these together and tasting them side-by-side with their stand-alone single varietal.
Each bottle's label includes a photo of the apple, and in-depth details (origin and variety history) and statistics (post-fermentation flavor graph with relative level of tannins, acidity, aromatics, etc.).
We have a limited number of kits available and are selling a 12-bottle and 10-bottle variety pack based on what's available. Apple varieties in the variety pack will include a mix of the following: Kermerrian, Frequin, Marchael, Nehou, Amerde Berthcourt, Chisel Jersey, Dabinett, Ashmeads Kernel, Ellis Bitter, Brown Snout, Porter's Perfection, Lady, Bramtot, and Boutiel de Lessux.
